Duties

  • Verify insurance for new patients and insurance changes, review coverage, co-pays, co-insurance, and deductible information to ensure that both patient and physician are aware of coverage before diagnosis and/or treatment begins.
  • Pre-authorize inpatient treatments with insurance companies to ensure treatments are covered, verify and communicate co-pays, co-insurance, and deductible information.
  • Connect patients with subsidized/discounted coverage options (insurance programs) when eligible.
  • Verify that patients have any required referrals by contacting referring physician offices by phone, email, or fax.
  • Communicate with co-workers by phone, electronic messages, and by updating patient chart notes.
  • Create records to document communication with insurance companies and referring physicians by scanning and inputting data into EMR/EHR systems (AMD and MDI).
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to master multiple computer systems (data entry and data retrieval)
  • Ability to master terminology in the medical field

Nice to Have

  • Experience with health insurance verification and physician referral tracking
  • Experience with medical office administration
  • Bilingual in Spanish at a professional level

Position Details

  • Schedule assigned by supervisor (approximately 9-6pm or 8-5pm) during weekdays.
  • No travel required
  • Hourly pay (FLSA non-exempt, eligible for overtime)

Physical Demands and Requirements

  • Ability to view patient images and read written, printed, and electronic information
  • Continuous use of a computer terminal (continuous typing, remaining stationary, and positioned to view and use computer terminal)
